Positive Power Impact

Google pays for 100% of the electricity they use to power THEIR data centers; they cover any other direct costs associated with their growth; and they are constantly investing and implementing new energy technologies to help lower costs for all of us.

When built responsibly, data centers can provide long-term, reliable electric demand, increasing utility revenue needed to support new energy infrastructure investments (transmission and generation) in a way that benefits all customers. We know rising energy costs are affecting U.S. families and businesses, and we are committed to ensuring power remains affordable and accessible for Deaf Smith County residents and businesses. A core part of Google's responsible growth strategy is ensuring that data center expansion does not burden local communities.

A commitment to water sustainability

Here in Deaf Smith County, we understand how important water is to our economic future. That's why we are excited that Google is pioneering innovative cooling technologies that minimize environmental impact while maintaining peak performance for data center operations. Their new facility here in Hereford will be a closed loop, non-evaporative, air cooling data center campus which will set new standards for sustainable infrastructure. Here are a few other things Google is doing to promote water sustainability that really impressed us.

120% Water Pledge

Google has a dedicated water and sustainability team that evaluates each project to advance water sustainability and stewardship goals with global leaders.

Limited Water Use for Site Operations

Water use during these initial phases will be limited to standard domestic needs, such as bathrooms and kitchen facilities.

Non-Evaporative Air Cooling

Project Roman will use a non-evaporative cooling solution for the project. These buildings will not use water for cooling.

Building long-term partnerships with local stakeholders.

One reason why the Deaf Smith County Chamber of Commerce is so excited to partner with Google on a data center in our community is their long-term record of building and strengthening their data center communities. From jobs to investments in schools, training to technical expertise, Google is committed to helping their data center communities keep pace in the digital economy.
